A Step by Step Guide to Legally Obtaining Marijuana for Medical Purposes

According to Harvard Medical School, the most common use of medical marijuana in America is to relieve pain. This is because millions of Americans suffer from chronic pain and medical marijuana is considered a popular pain relieving alternative. As stated by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, medical marijuana is also sought for relief from anxiety, epilepsy, chemotherapy induced nausea, and muscle spasms.

Despite considerable evidence for its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, marijuana continues to be illegal on national level. On state level, recreational marijuana is legal in 10 and medical in 33 states as of January 2019.

Even if medical marijuana is legal in your state, you can’t walk into your nearby dispensary and ask for as much of it as you want to, no matter what the purpose. Let us take you through the process in its entirety.

Step#1: Qualifying conditions

You’re only eligible to legally purchase medical marijuana if you have a medical condition that can be relieved by consuming medical marijuana. Most common of these are:
· Post traumatic stress disorder
· Cancer
· Parkinson’s
· Epilepsy
· Chronic pain resulting from one of the qualifying conditions
· Multiple Sclerosis
· HIV-AIDS and other similar conditions.

Step#2: Medical Examination

Just like every other remedy, it’s not advisable to take medical marijuana without appropriate advice from a certified doctor. The first step will be to visit a medical marijuana clinic with all the relevant documents of your medical history. The doctor will suggest a tailor-made marijuana dosage to suit the requirements of your condition. The doctor will not just help you obtain a marijuana consent form but will also follow up by providing relevant after-treatment care and diet plans.

Step#3: Obtain state certificate

After a doctor has prescribed you medical marijuana for your condition, you will then be asked by your clinic to fill out certain patient forms with your information. Once the clinic has your information, they’ll set up your medical marijuana registry profile and will pay the Office of Medical Marijuana Use of your state on your behalf for the state certificate.

Your state certificate will declare that you’re legally allowed to purchase medical marijuana from an authorized and listed dispensary. Please note that use and purchase of medical marijuana must be legal in your state for this process to be followed.

Medical marijuana is legal in Florida.
